Armação de Pêra is a high-rise holiday resort town that is a short distance away from the town of Albufeira. Before being developed into the popular resort it is today, it used to be a place for the the residents of Pêra to keep their boats. While Pêra is still the quiet sleepy village it always has been, the original wooden shacks of Armação de Pêra of the past have now been replaced by luxury hotels, villas and other apartment blocks. The two shopping centers in the town are the main places to go shopping although there are no shortage of individual shops along the streets.
The town truly becomes alive during the summer months where tourists all over flock to the resort for its quality beaches and vibrant nightlife which is varied enough to cater for the young and the mature, whatever your tastes. Along the waterfront are several restaurants, bars and nightclubs with more restaurants in the old part of town. Beautiful picturesque beaches make up the the coastline here with soft golden sands and warm sparkling blue waters making it ideal for the whole family. Its not uncommon for Armação de Pêra to have thousands of people on its beaches throughout the height of summer but because of its length and width, it doesn't feel like its overcrowded. It is also a popular stretch of beach with watersports enthusiasts where surfing, water skiing and sailing is the order of the day. If you're not that particularly sporty, you can still enjoy a nice relaxing boat trip which takes you to explore the deserted coves and grottos in the area.
