Alvor was originally an old small fishing village that has since become a popular picturesque destination for tourists. The streets of Alvor are narrow which has prevented the centre of Alvor from expanding significantly but this has not stopped Alvor from embracing tourism. A variety of quality restaurants, small shops, retail chains and bars with live music are now commonplace among some of these narrow streets. Despite this though, Alvor is still largely an unspoilt, pleasant location.
The village has expansive sandy beaches and a natural lagoon, which are quite popular with visitors. Regardless of when you go, it will never be too crowded. Like many beaches in the Algarve, the sand is soft and warm while the waters are sparkling blue, cool and refreshing. There are several watersports to participate if you feel active enough.
