Bodrum (from Ancient Greek: Halicarnassus or Turkish: Halikarnas) is a port town in the Mugla Province in southwestern Turkey and is the capital of the Bodrum Peninsula
Bodrum castle is a must for anyone's visiting list, as it was built in the 15th Century by the Crusaders, and it over looks the harbour and also the International Marina where you can view all the Yacht's coming in to port. The grounds of the castle also includes a Museum of Underwater Archeology as well as hosting several cultural festivals throughout the year.
Once a simple town of fishermen and sponge divers until the middle of the 20th Century, Bodrum has become one of the hot spots for tourists to visit, especially for the shopping, when a market is staged each week in the town centre, these take place each Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, so if you see anything you like any of these days, then don't forget... haggle the price down!
Fancy the aquatic life, then diving is for you, and there are some amazing diving schools in Bodrum, where you can learn to scuba dive, snorkel, anything that your heart desires, or even go on a boat trip, and enjoy sunbathing on the deck, or even go 'off the deep end' by jumping or stepping off the boat and go for a swim, when you get back into the harbour, then why not head to the Turkish baths and enjoy a nice relaxing time before getting ready for a night on the town, just make sure, when you do go out, go into the town centre and enjoy the wonders of Bodrum, with all the different bars and restaurants that are in the town, and find out why even the Turkish rank Bodrum above Istanbul as the most appealing place in Turkey for nightlife.
