Corralejo to the north of Fuerteventura is one of the prettiest holiday resorts on the island, especially around the harbour and just south at the white sandy beaches. Corralejo started life as a small fishing town and has grown into a delightful area with many Corralejo holiday villas and apartments to rent. The old part of town has a small beach, which is safe for families with other more spacious beaches being close by while on the old harbour, fishing is quite popular. The new area of the town has a marina and has ferry services to Lanzarote and the small tranquil island of Lobos, home to many unique fauna and flora, which is only fifteen minutes away by ferry. There are also sometimes competitions for swimmers to swim back to Corralejo from Lobos and these draw the crowds to the harbours. The main beaches of Corralejo offer a wide range of activities including surfing, diving and sailing. And on land, visitors can enjoy hiking, quad bike tours and mountain biking with a choice of routes to take depending on preference. Other activities include glass bottom boats, Jeep safaris and island tours.
Corralejo has many shops, bars and restaurants along the main street, with some of the shops and restaurants actually being the original houses that have been refurnished. Corralejo also has its own waterpark and shopping centre. Surrounding the town are miles of sand dunes, which are a protected nature reserve.
