The closest major city and airport is Varna which is situated just ten miles away.
The history surrounding Golden Sands includes ruins as old as the 4th century AD. Fortresses, monastries and outlaws' hideaways are scattered throughout the surrounding ancient forests.
The town's development began in 1957 and the level of growth and investment has been staggering ever since. Entertainment and activities are full and varied enough to cater for all tastes and ages. There can be found restaurants, spa centres, horse-riding schools, shopping centres, sports facilities and waterparks to name but a few. The local authorities have a firm policy of keeping roads and car parks down to a sensible level so that the town can boast a distinctly green and pedestrian-friendly feel. The surrounding area consists of a large expanse of protected forest and a very difficult compromise has been followed over the years to preserve this while at the same time allowing for the healthy growth of the tourism industry.
