Mirador Ses Calas can be found within the Calas de Mallora tourist resort, which is located on the south-eastern side of the island by the Cala Antena estuary, or bay. The area is great for families; there is even a disco in the town for the older kids and teenagers. The resort is a purpose built one, so there is little of the traditional way of Spanish life, but that does not detract from its appeal.
The Resort is based around the Cala Antena, which is a stunning bay. Around the area there are many separate mini resorts, of which Mirador Ses Calas is just one. The main square in Calas de Mallorca is Centro Comercial and it houses a couple of great play areas for the younger children.
One of the best beaches in the area is the Cala Domingos Gran, which has a wonderful walkway and promenade around its headland that supplies some spectacular views across the sea, especially at sunset. There is also Cala Domingos Petis and Cala Antena; due to their compact nature these bays and beaches can become packed at weekend and during the peak season, but they can be reached via the headland walkway or via the Calas Express road train.
If all you want is a relaxing holiday by the sea where you can wander to a restaurant or cafe of lunch and dinner, then this is probably one of the best places in all of Mallorca to visit. Although the resort has many things to keep you occupied such as water sports, shops and so on, it is also a great place to use as a base to explore this section of the island.
Porto Cristo is about 20 minutes away and is home to the stunning Coves del Drach, or Caves of Drach (Dragon Caves). There are four of them and they extend back to a depth of around 25 meters. There is the Black Cave, White Cave, Cave of Luis Salvador and Cave of the French and they are all connected to each other.
Inside the caves there is an underground lake called Martel Lake, which is about 1150 meters in length and around 30 meters wide. Coves dels Hams is also located near to Porto Cristo. These caves have a beautiful array of stalactites and stalagmites and this cave system is also home to an underground lake called ‘The sea of Venice’.
