VILLAS AND APARTMENTS TO RENT IN LA THUILE, ITALY.
Welcome to our selection of holiday homes to rent in La Thuile, Italy.
The small town of La Thuile is the ideal destination for all those skiers who want to concentrate on their skiing and don't want to get distracted by a busy apres-ski scene! Although there are enough restaurants to keep you well fed and few bars also, should you fancy a night out, the main focus here is on providing good skiing facilities. Many of the slopes are ideally suited to beginners which, coupled with the lack of a party atmosphere, makes the area very popular with locals and their families. In fact, La Thuile is one of the great-undiscovered gems of the Italian Alps and its slopes often remain quiet even at the weekends.
Perched right on the border with France in the north-west corner of Italy, the skiing area around La Thuile is often referred to as San Bernado, after the mountain pass between the two countries and is the region that gives its name to the famous St Bernard dogs! Snowfall can be a little erratic in this part of the Valle d'Aosta, which means the season often starts a little later here and often not until December. Once the snow starts to fall, you have over 150 kilometres of runs to choose between, ranging from nursery slopes, where you can take lessons, to black runs and off-piste areas. The surrounding countryside is as stunning as you would expect, while the village itself has not expanded much beyond the traditional centre, unlike some of the other skiing destinations in this part of Italy.
As well as enjoying the picturesque old centre of La Thuile, summer visitors to the Valle d'Aosta can still enjoy the same skiing slopes that are so popular in the winter; once the weather becomes warmer, these hills and mountains tend to be busy with walkers and mountains bikers, while horse riding is also popular on the gentler, wooded tracks around the village itself. If you prefer to sit back and enjoy the scenery, many of the winter ski lifts run all year round, taking tourists up to the best viewpoints on the mountains. In the village itself the church dates back to the 12th century, while the ruins of older, prehistoric structures can be seen on the outskirts. Popular day trips from La Thuile include the Rutor glacier and the stunning Lac d'Arpy, a truly unique place to try some wild swimming.
