West Sussex is rich in historical heritage. One of the most famous contributions is the fortification of Arundel Castle. Founded on Christmas Day in 1067, it has been open to visitors approaching nearly two centuries. Its Keep, halls and former corridors of power are richly endowed with antique furniture; paintings by the renown such as Van Dyke and Gainsborough; tapestries that hang majestically whilst the quiet sound of mechanical clocks tick to the glory of sculptures, carvings, heraldry and armour. Chichester Cathedral in the county town of West Sussex whose magnificent structure was commissioned in 1076 and thirty-two years later was finally finished. Its architecture its adornments of sculptures, paintings and craftwork infuse the modern with those of its historical past. It is open every day of the year to the public for visiting. Chichester is also adorned with one of the most well known racecourses that is listed as one of the most scenic and is colloquially known as Glorious Goodwood. Goodwood also hosts a festival of speed with all types of automobiles: cars, motorbikes and monster trucks.
Chichester also hosts a wonderful coastline alongside Bognor Regis, Littlehampton and Worthing. The beaches of Bognor Regis and Worthing are popular and have entertainment for all including piers that lazily stretch across their sands. Littlehampton is more sedate and therefore attracts the quieter seeking tourist to its shingle laden sands. Naturally the coastline attracts many anglers that land and sea fish and there are also lakes and ponds dotted within the county that are often fished from.
