VILLAS AND APARTMENTS TO RENT IN PESARO E URBINO, ITALY.
Welcome to our selection of holiday homes to rent in Pesaro e Urbino, Italy.
Although they are actually separate towns, Pesaro and Urbino are always linked together as “Pesaro e Urbino” as over the years the boundaries between them have become blurred. They are the joint provincial centres of the southern region of Marche and if you decide to visit one, either Pesaro for its beaches and historic town centre or Urbino for its art and culture, then you would be foolish to ignore the other while you're so close. Both are nestled close to the Adriatic coast, making the region an ideal destination for a fascinating and relaxing summer holiday.
Pesaro is home to the area's best beaches, many of which are sheltered by the mountains to the north, making the climate feel a few degrees warmer than in other towns nearby. Bathing is safe for families and there are plenty of tourist amenities in the town. If beaches aren't your thing or you have grown tired of sunning yourself, there is plenty to entertain you away from the resort part of town, from the Ceramics Museum to the medieval castles built on the cliff tops at Fiorenzuola di Focara and Casteldimezzo.
The area is very proud of its heritage as a centre for ceramics production and the museum doesn't just feature examples of local work, but also information about the history of the industry. The medieval castles, a short drive out of town, are not just impressive buildings in their own right, but both also offer breathtaking views of the coastline. Among Pesaro's other attractions are a fine art museum, a local history museum and the house of composer Rossini, which has now been turned into another museum, this one dedicated to his life and music.
The town of Urbino may be the smaller of the two, but it is no less impressive. Surrounded by still-standing 16th century ramparts, the narrow, winding streets have changed little since medieval times. The highlight is undoubtedly the Palazzo Ducale, not only a beautiful building, but one that is filled with works of art and fine pieces of furniture and ceramics.
Many of the villages in the hills surrounding Pesaro e Urbino have their own charms too, such as the seaside resort of San Bartolo or Mondavio, home to a fascinating local festival called the “Palio of the Wild Boar”, which sees representatives from different districts competing with each other. The slightly large village of Fano is also worth visiting, especially if you are there at festival time when the Italian village feels more like Rio, with a parade of colourful floats, loud music and dancing in the streets.
