The Czech Republic is abound with historic and natural wonders and UNESCO authenticates these as world heritage sites. The first of great mention is in the capital and largest city of Prague that resides in the area of Bohemia. The Old Town of Prague is decorated with houses of residence, churches and other buildings dating back to the 13th century.
Prague Castle, another UNESCO World Heritage Site is a marvellously spacious castle with Roman and Gothic style interior buildings with extensive renovations that took place after the Second World War including regular maintenance and work to the present day. Other grand places to visit in this splendid city are those of Lobkowicz Palace and St Vitus Cathedral. There is also the Zoo and the Botanical Gardens near each other as well as numerous gardens, parks and museums such as that dedicated to Franz Kafka – a novelist of Jewish birth who composed many works in the German language. For leisurely entertainment there is the National Theatre and for adrenalin junkies there is a bobsleigh course.
Moravia, the other area of the Czech Republic has the second largest city in Brno. And not to be outdone has its own significant buildings and structures such as Spielberg Castle built in the 13th century. It has served not only as a fortress but also as a prison for both political and those imprisoned during war times including the Second World War and the domination of the Third Reich in Eastern Europe. It also has its own famous Freedom Square, Zoo, museums and parks.
Bohemia and Moravia also hold other delights outside their main cities and the regular tourist to the Czech Republic will be well rewarded for going further afield as UNESCO recognise twelve other sites including other towns like Telc and Olomouc.
