THE HOME:
"La Vicinia" is a beautiful medieval self-catering house with garden set in a wonderful natural and historical environment within the complex of the Castle of Strassoldo di Sopra, in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Province of Udine, not far from the seaside (18 km).
THE CONTEXT:
The castle itself is formed by the main building where the the counts of Strassoldo still live, la Vicinia, an old tower, the church of St. Nikolaus, the stables, the granaries, the rice mill, the archives and the guards' houses. The whole is surrounded by lovely gardens crossed by spring-water streams and rivers.
KINDS OF ACCOMMODATION OFFERED AT THE CASTLE OF STRASSODO DI SOPRA:
1) a self-catering house called "La Vicinia", which has
- a wonderful arched portico for eating out and resting
- private garden
- living room/dining area
- 2 double rooms each one with its own bathroom with shower, furnished with beautiful copies of Venetian furniture hand painted by local artisans
- equipped kitchen and private parking place.
Prices:
Low season = Euro 800 per week / High season = Euro 900 per week, including sheets, blankets, towels, table and kitchen cloths, cutlery, dishes, pots and pans, heating in Winter, cold and hot drinkable water and electricity.
It is possible to stay shorter (not less than 3 nights) or longer periods
and
2) Bed & Breakfast accommodation in 2 lovely tower suites (Euro 210 and Euro 190 per night/suite with buffet breakfast) and 4 romantic double rooms in the rice mill (Euro 145 per night/room with buffet breakfast).
The tower and rice mill B&B rooms are rented for at least 2 nights.
WHAT YOU CAN DO IN STRASSOLDO:
Strassoldo is a great place to rest, make wonderful walks in the lovely countryside, swim in the nearby Adriatic Sea (Beach of Grado = 18 km) and dive into the flair of a region which isn't overrun by tourists and has many important historical sites, lovely nature with many different beautiful landscapes from high mountains to rolling hills, green plains and rock or sand beaches.
It is also a perfect place to try excellent rural restaurants and renown wineries.
For golfers there are several good golf courses not far from Strassoldo and the Grado Golf Club grants a 20% green fee reduction to the castle guests.
GEOGRAFICAL POSITION:
Strassoldo is in a very central position near:
- the ancient Roman colony of Aquileia (14 km)
- the Adriatic sand beach of Grado (18 km)
- the beautiful towns of Udine (25 km), Trieste (38 km), Gorizia (34 km), Pordenone (45 km)
- the marvellous Adriatic Gulf of Trieste(25 km)
- Slovenia (35 km)
- Venice (98 km) and
- Austria (100 km).
From here it is, therefore, possibile to make very nice day excursions
HOW TO REACH STRASSOLDO:
BY CAR: taking the A4 highway Venice-Trieste - exit Palmanova. After leaving highway turn right towards Cervignano-Grado - after 4 km turn left taking village of Strassoldo's entrance. The castle is in the centre of the village near to the church.
