This is an area of outstanding natural beauty on the "route verte", near to the marshlands adjoining the Gironde estuary. Wildlife and birdlife abound, and local activities include riding and bicycling. The village has a good selection of shops for provisions, and a bar. The church of St Thomas dates back to Roman times, and the locality is on the historic pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostella in Spain. There is no garden or swimming pool at the cottage, which is more suited to visitors who are looking for a comfortable and convenient base from which to explore the beauties of this renowned wine-producing region. The larger towns of Saintes and Royan with their comprehensive and sophisticated attractions are within half an hour's drive, the Ile de Rey and La Rochelle are a little further away, but within easy striking distance. This is unspoilt France with the second greatest sunshine hours of the whole country, second only to the Cote d'Azur at a fraction of the price!
