Thw territory is near to two National Parks, and a Marine
reserve. There are also two important Yachting Marinas close by, as well as a Health Farm, and Aquafun Centre. Numers sites of interest can be reached within a short drive. The major towns of Maratea and Sapri, are 10 mins. away, and offer all amenities and mainline train stations. There are several pebble beaches with caves to explore in the immediate vicinity and two very large beaches within walking distance - but they also have parking faciilites.
This family villa has been designed with every comfort in mind, furnished mainly in hispanic-mediterean style with porticos and arches. The floors and terraces are in terracotta and antique algerian tiles, with other furnishing in wrought-ironwork and walnut wood. A central hall gives access to three double bedrooms that share two bathrooms (one en-suite). From the hall one also enters either the kitchen or the spacious living room which also has a dinning room. Ample glass doors on the seaward side
lead onto a surrounding portico, which also has a dinning area in masonry. The exceptionally large terrace provides a magnificent view of the sea, and the entire coastline with spectacular sunsets.
From a lower pergola-covered terrace, a path winds down through the stone terracing with oak, carob and pine trees, to the volcanic rocks at the sea edge, from where on can either bath or swim round to one of the neighbouring rocky inlets with secluded pebble beaches. The richness of the marine environment, and the many caves and grottos in the area, are of great attraction for snorkeling. On the major beaches one can hire kyaks and peddaloes etc., and from the port of Maratea, motorboats. Horse riding can be organised on the long sandy beaches further south.
Though essentially a summer residence, in the off-peak season the house can provide a tranquil retreat in a region which offers a variety of rarely visited historical archeological and natural sites. (See the article in the Travel Section of the Daily Telegraph of 25.08.02. "Rock of Ages" by Richard Robinson) To sum up, the Maratea coastline is similar to the Amalfi coast, but less expensive, much less crowded and virtually unspoilt.
